From old-school soul and blues to Hip-Hop legends and modern icons, AB DVinci’s sound is rooted in legacy and elevated by authenticity. In this exclusive interview, he talks inspirations, upcoming collaborations, the TMP movement, and what’s next under 1836 Entertainment.
10OutOf10Promos: What first got you into music?
AB DVinci: My moms always had a great record and cassette collection growing up, and then CDs too. She always had good music playing throughout the house while cleaning and cooking. She got me really into Michael Jackson and Prince and a lot of mainstream pop artists of that time.
My Pops loved Elvis Presley and blues and soul music from the 50s and 60s, so we were always riding around in his station wagon on that vibe.
My uncle Rene got me into Rap and Hip-Hop music. He would smuggle explicit CDs for me from his job like they were drugs, because my moms wasn’t having no cussing lol.
10OutOf10Promos: Who inspired you to make music?
AB DVinci: I gave my homie Nino B of the Kumbia Kings his flowers on the last article for inspiring me to chase my dream.
On a national level, I was inspired by the greats like Michael Jackson, Elvis, Prince, Bobby Brown, 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Ray Charles, James Brown, Sam Cooke, Wu-Tang Clan, Patsy Cline, and 50 Cent.
I love great writers and great performers.
10OutOf10Promos: How would you describe the music that you typically create?
AB DVinci: Timeless. Quality. Genuine. Bangin.
It can be reflective, it can be reminiscent, it can be about what we went through the night before — but it’s always real.
10OutOf10Promos: What is your creative process like?
AB DVinci: Creativity can strike at any time and when it does, I get busy in the studio. I work quick. I drop rapidly when I’m in that mode — then boom… I’ll chill for a minute… then go perform what I recorded… then wait for it to happen again.
10OutOf10Promos: Who would you most like to collaborate with?
AB DVinci: We’re working something out with Baby Bash’s management to get this feature for our TMP album. I can’t say too much, but Droopy got a joint with Young Buck at the studio and that’s one of our favorite rappers ever.
I would love to work with J. Cole, Fabolous, Nas, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, 1836’s own Audic Empire & Grind, and Troy Stone.
10OutOf10Promos: If you could open a show for any artist, who would it be?
AB DVinci: Nas.
10OutOf10Promos: What is one message you would give to your fans?
AB DVinci: Without y’all I would’ve probably quit by now. I love y’all.
10OutOf10Promos: What is the most useless talent you have?
AB DVinci: 360 tornado kick. Unless you’re in a TaeKwonDo tournament, you’re out of context. Lol.
10OutOf10Promos: Do you sing in the shower? What songs?
AB DVinci: Yes sir! Whatever pops up on Apple Music. Yes, I’m team Apple Music.
10OutOf10Promos: What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
AB DVinci:
Without me finding music at an early age, I don’t think I would be alive.
But on a positive tip — teaching martial arts and maybe a real estate hustle.
10OutOf10Promos: Where have you performed? Favorite venues? Upcoming shows?
AB DVinci: I’m not gonna put my least favorite on blast. My favorite was the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi.
And yes — we have a LOT of shows coming up all through the summer.
10OutOf10Promos: How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
AB DVinci: I think it’s the best and worst thing to ever happen to it. If you were in the game prior to the internet takeover, then you have an edge over those who weren’t.
10OutOf10Promos: What is your favorite song to perform?
AB DVinci: I love performing all of our TMP group songs or the ones I have with Droopy M because the energy is insane on stage.
10OutOf10Promos: Which famous musicians do you admire?
AB DVinci: 50 Cent, Ray Charles, Prince, James Brown, Nas, J. Cole, Joey Bada$$.
10OutOf10Promos: What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?
AB DVinci: I’ve been arrested a couple times, put in the E.R. once — but nothing hurt more than getting kicked out my mom’s crib. That was my fault though.
10OutOf10Promos: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
AB DVinci: “Rudeness is a weak man’s imitation of strength.”
10OutOf10Promos: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
AB DVinci: I would spread more knowledge to the up-and-coming artists. We’re trying to.
10OutOf10Promos: What’s next for you?
AB DVinci: We’re working on a TMP album under the label we just got signed to, 1836 Entertainment.
We’ve got a show coming up with Warren G and Amanda Perez, and we also have a tour lined up with Lil Flip and Z-Ro.
10OutOf10Promos: Where can fans find you?
AB DVinci: abdvinci.com biiiiiaaaaatttccchhh!!! Jk… but yeah — abdvinci.com
